Mr. Day is the Deputy Director of DRONERESPONDERS, the world’s leading non‑profit program advancing public safety UAS, counter‑UAS, and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). In this role, Jason oversees daily operations, training and event coordination, and strategic engagement with public safety agencies and the private‑sector partners that support them.
Mr. Day brings over 35 years of aviation experience, including service in the U.S. Navy, a career in civilian aviation, and more than a decade in public safety aviation. He has served on numerous boards, contributed to the development of the NIST Standard Test Methods for Small UAS, and was a member of the FAA UAS Detection and Mitigation Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC). He has also served as an instructor for multiple organizations, helping shape the next generation of UAS professionals.
Mr. Day is dedicated to delivering scalable, mission-focused education and resources for public safety agencies, departments of transportation, state and national guard units, federal, state and local governments agencies, as well as government-adjacent organizations.
Prior to joining DRONERESPONDERS, Mr. Day served as Director of the UAS Program for the Texas Department of Public Safety. Over a decade of leadership, he helped build what is recognized as the largest public safety UAS program in the United States. Under his guidance, the Texas DPS UAS team grew from 17 remote pilots to more than 400, logging over 250,000 flights and averaging 50,000 flight/13,000 flight hours annually. This UAS program is the national model for scalable, standards-based UAS training and operations.
During his ten years with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Mr. Day coordinated numerous high‑profile, multi‑agency UAS operations supporting virtually every public safety UAS mission set. He served as the UAS Coordinator in the Texas Air Operations Center during multiple hurricane and flood responses, helping integrate unmanned aircraft into large‑scale, complex emergency operations. Through this work, Jason further solidified his reputation as a leading subject matter expert in building safe, effective, and sustainable UAS operations for demanding mission environments.
